Tulsa, Oklahoma – ASL Festival – TCC

29 August, 2007 (14:33) | Calendar, Local News | By: Admin

Tulsa Community College is hosting a 2nd ASL Festival Day Friday, September 28th.

All ages welcome.

We will once again host the second ASL Festival Day on Friday, September 28th at Tulsa Community College (many thanks to TCC for giving us their place as a site of attraction) that is open to pre-K to 12 schools and college-level schools. Last year, we came in full force with academic trivia bowl on two appropriate education levels, field games appropriate to the age levels, and exhibit booths from the deaf community including a face-painting table for those who wanted their faces painted with their favorite animals, symbols, flowers and etc. It was a good exposure to the mainstreamed students of all ages who had no idea that they can function in the world as normally as they could as hearing people. You know that the deaf can do anything except they can’t hear as famously quoted by the retired Gallaudet University President I. King Jordan who is late-deafened himself.

This year, we aim to also include the deaf storytellers to give stories in sign language throughout the day. The essay and poster contests will also happen from the deaf students. We plan to have a deaf talent show that night (I will send the criteria information from work, I am typing this from my home and I do not have that in my home file) and this
applies to ANYONE of ALL ages to demonstrate their talents. This includes the deaf adults who are not in school.
